Chilean–Peruvian Delegation Attends Seminar in Turku on Climate-Neutral Urban Development
A Chilean–Peruvian delegation attended a seminar in Turku, co-organized by Niina fu, to learn about Finland’s leading approaches to sustainable urban development as the city progresses toward carbon neutrality by 2029. Turku is one of the EU’s “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.”
The delegation then visited Linnanfältti, a new wooden residential district developed under Finland’s national pilot program for wood construction.
The program began with a meeting at Forum Marinum, hosted by City of Turku authorities, with participation from:
- Timo Hintsanen, Director of Urban Planning
- Kalle Euro, Architecture Coordinator (SAFA)
- Mika Rajala, Urban Planning Specialist
- Elias Mäkelä, Project Manager, NCC Finland
- Niklas Kronberg, Senior Architect, ARCO Architects
Discussions focused on sustainable urban planning and Turku’s climate strategy.
The delegation then visited Linnanfältti, a new wooden residential district developed under Finland’s national pilot program for wood construction.
After lunch, the group toured Hirvensalo, hosted by TVT Asunnot Oy, where they explored two identical apartment buildings—one built in wood and the other in concrete—completed in 2021. The project offers a unique comparison of material performance in modern housing.
